What should I do if I think there's a problem with my
unit?
Your unit has been tested before
shipment to ensure proper operation, however if you
believe that there's a problem with the unit, contact
the dealer you originally purchased the unit from for
instructions on returning your unit. The units
are warranted for a period of two (2) years from date
of purchase against defects in workmanship and material
only. Items which are normally expendable such
as a rubber part, foam inserts, or items which are damaged
by liquids or misuse (such as dropping the unit), are
not included in this warranty.
2.
What does a Multiple Sample Starter Set (Model No. H301) include?
The Multiple Sample
Starter Set (Model No. H301) includes a
plastic six-inch platform, one (1) foam insert
for 60 microtubes, and one (1) foam insert for
microplates. These items may also be purchased separately. Please refer
to our list of accessories for the Vortex-Genie®
2 mixer for more information on these accessories
as well as many others.
3.
How do I use the Microplate or Microtube Foam Insert?
The Microplate Foam Insert,
Microtube Foam Insert and Two-Tier Foam Insert all require
the six-inch platform (Part No. 146-6005-00) for use. The
six-inch platform will "snap" onto the post of the Vortex-Genie 2
or Vortex-Genie 2T. Any of the foam inserts mentioned above will
then fit snugly into the six-inch platform and is ready for use.

as well as many others.
5. Is
there a correlation between the dial number on the Vortex-Genie®
2 and a specific speed in RPM?
The dial number should be a reference
only. Specific speed of the unit will depend on the
weight of the sample and attachment, as well as the
electrical configuration of the Vortex-Genie 2.
6.
What is the speed range, in RPM's, for the Vortex-Genie® 2 mixer? How do I determine the RPM's at a specific point on the speed control?
The speed range for the Vortex-Genie 2 mixer is approximately 600-3200 RPM for 60Hz models and 600-2700 RPM for 50 Hz models. RPM's at a specific point can be determined by using a strobe light.
7. I have a model K550G/GE
Vortex-Genie® mixer.
Are parts available for this mixer? Are they interchangeable
with the newer model G560/E?
The K550G/GE mixer is obsolete,
and most of the replacement parts for that mixer are
no longer available. The parts for the current
model G560/E cannot be used on the K550G/GE mixer.
8.
Can I purchase the 3-inch platform without a cover for
the Vortex-Genie®
2 mixer?
Yes. The 3-inch platform
and the rubber cover are available as separate items.
To ensure maximum mixing efficiency, the rubber
cover should always be used with the 3-inch platform.
Please refer to the list of accessories
for the Vortex Genie 2 mixer
for more information.
9.
Is the voltage on my unit changeable?
Yes. You may change the
voltage on your unit by using a transformer which you
can purchase at an electric supply store. Please
remember, however, that the transformer must be able
to handle the amperage of the unit - refer to the specifications
portion of your operations manual included with the
unit. The mixing will not be as vigorous and the
service life of the mixer will be shortened. It
is always best to use a model designed for your specific
voltage.
10. Can the Vortex-Genie®
2 mixer be used at low temperatures?
Yes. The Vortex-Genie
2 mixer and accessories can be operated in a cold room
at a temperature no lower than 4°C (40°F). Also, it
should be noted that as with most electrical
devices the unit should not be exposed to excess moisture
or humidity (condensation would be an example of excess
moisture).
11. The attachments
on my Vortex-Genie®
2 are coming loose. What is causing this?
The most likely cause of loose
attachments is improper installation. Verify that the
attachment is mounted properly by referring to the operating
instructions included with the mixer or attachments.
Also, be certain that the tubes and flasks are properly
balanced on the attachments prior to operating the mixer.
This will also avoid excessive wear and tear due to
uneven balancing.
12. How long do Vortex-Genie®
2 accessories last?
Accessories for the Vortex-Genie
2 will wear over time depending on frequency and duration
of use, exposure to chemicals, and other environmental
factors.
13. Can I use Vortex-Genie®
accessories on another company’s vortex mixer?
No. Vortex-Genie accessories are
specifically designed to work on specific Vortex-Genie
mixers only.
14. What is the maximum recommended capacity of the Vortex-Genie 2?
The maximum recommended capacity of the Vortex-Genie 2 is approximately 1 lb. (454 g).
