Spherical lead free soda lime glass beads are available for use with the Disruptor Genie™ or TurboMix™ attachment (used with Vortex-Genie® 2 or Vortex-Genie® 2T) for optimal disruption of cells. Each unit may be used in cold rooms or incubators, and can hold up to twelve 1.5ml or 2.0ml microtubes. Two bead sizes are available:

0.1mm diameter beads — Bacteria
0.5mm diameter beads — Yeast/Fungi

Specific glass bead amounts and disruption times will vary depending on the individual protocol used or the outcome desired. See cell disruption using glass bead media for additional information. The beads may be cleaned with laboratory detergents, moderate acid solutions, and bleach as needed for specific protocols. The beads may also be autoclaved according to individual preferences. Additionally, the beads may be frozen as needed for specific applications.
